Let's Sail Away

I made Adam this card to go with a surprise I was giving him for all the diligent studying he did for the California bar exam. Since he couldn't go sailing as much as he wanted to that summer due to studying, I wanted to give him a present to make him excited that the exam was finally over and he could skim along the waves again!

I sent this card, along with a little package, with Adam when he flew to California, and made him promise not to open it until after the exam when he was on the plane coming home.

Adam was esctatic when he opened the envelope on the flight back. The card depics an Ella Vickers tote bag handcrafted entirely from recycled yacht sails!

Adam and I had come across them when we went to an arts and crafts fair a few years ago at Lyndhurst Castle. Adam loved the bag and it was perfect for his sailing, but it was a bit pricey and, after going back to "visit" the bag in the company's stall four times, he decided not to get it after all. I secretly vowed to get it for him for a special occasion.

I also bought a chocolate sailboat at Dylan's Candy Bar, and packaged it with the card.

One thing I was adamant on was that the number on the bag had to be either an "8" or a "J24" (type of sailboat). The number 8 is a lucky number in Chinese culture, and I like the shapely roundedness of it. Also, since I had the company custom make the bag, I chose bright red instead of blue for the number so that it stands out more.
