My friend Matt used to do the most annoying thing. Every year, on a certain day in July (you get one guess), he would email me with just one line:
"May the Fourth be with you."
I laughed out loud the first time he did it, and still giggle a little. I'm such a nerd.
I was in a cardmaking binge around the end of June, so I made this card:
Yup, that's Joe the Monkey (who wished my brother a happy birthday) and my beloved branch making another appearance. I broke off bits of a toothpick to make the flagpole.
I sent this card to my brother. I also sent it to my dad's professor from way back when and his wife, the Burkarts. The Burkarts are old, old family friends. They took my parents into their hearts and home (my mother was pregnant with me at the time!) when my parents were very poor foreign graduate students. They named both me and my brother. Although we moved far away from them when I was young and I have only seen them a handful of times over the years, they are still in my heart. I hope they got a smile out of the silly card!
