Here is the first card I made that I am unreservedly proud of:
I gave this card to Adam for him to give to his friend, Alex. I had given Adam sailing lessons as a birthday present a few years ago, and as I was nervous about joining him for lessons since I get motion sickness really easily, Adam asked Alex to take the classes with him and they had a great time. Last year, to remind him that sailing season was approaching again, Alex sent Adam a length of sailing rope in the mail. We couldn't figure out for the life of us why Alex sent us a piece of rope, but Alex later on clarified that it was to practice knots on, LOL...
I would definitely repeat this design for other cards and change it up with different color combinations. I got the lanterns on the right and in the middle from ImpressRubberStamps, and the one on the left was something I picked up on eBay (it has a little bird perched on leafy branches - click on the picture if you want to see a larger image). The lanterns are "hanging" from a piece of knotted satin ribbon.
Yes, the colors made it a slightly girly card to give to a big macho man like Alex, but it was the cutest card I had on hand at the moment, so Alex just had to deal.
Here is another thank you card I made with lanterns. Perhaps there were too many colors, but the overall effect was festive. I forget who I gave this card to, oops!
