Dove Release

Here is an example of a great idea that was somewhat lacking in execution. What I wanted was a flock of doves fluttering into a moonlit sky at dusk. How it turned out... well, you can see for yourself, but due to my relative inexperience with vellum, the moon ended up looking like the thing that was fluttering.
I traced around a mug and cut out a big pale yellow circle for the moon. To soften the colors and make it more "dusky", I pasted paper vellum over it. I then punched out dozens of little white doves and painstakingly glued them on one by one.

Although I'm not exactly a paper vellum virgin, I forgot - or maybe simply disregarded, thinking it would turn out right somehow - the fact that it would wrinkle up if I glued things to it. It didn't scrunch up immediately, so I thought everything was peachy and pranced around the apartment crowing with pride, but the next morning, a palm slap to the forehead was in order. Ah, well - lesson learned!
